New Programs for the 2013-2014 School Year

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we prepare for the 2013-2014 school year, there are several programs that we are very excited to implement.  Included is information about the 1:1 laptop program that we will begin this year.  To help us prepare for this program, we are asking each family to complete the Home Technology Survey formats.  The survey is available online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2013PMHSInternet or  a hard copy may be completed and returned to the high school office.

At the Fall Parents’ Night on September 12, 2013 more information will be presented about the 1:1 program.  In addition, we will have a Parent Technology Boot Camp on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 7:00 p.m.  Parents will have the opportunity to view the laptop students will use, receive the policies that will govern this program and have questions answered.  We encourage you to mark these events on your calendar.

For the second year the Penn Manor School District is partnering with the Hempfield and Manheim Township School Districts to offer online courses through the Open Campus PA program.  We desire to increase the course offerings of this program and seek student input into what future classes may be developed.  Please have your student complete a short survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/OCPASurvey or complete a hard copy and return it to the high school office.

This year, Penn Manor is beginning a partnership with the Lancaster Samaritan Counseling Center to screen ninth grade students for mental health issues.  This screening will occur in the fall when freshmen, who have Physical Education class, will do required height, weight, and vision screening.  In order to have your son or daughter participate in the mental health screening, a consent form must be completed and returned to the high school office.

We are excited about the opportunities the new school year will provide for us.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (717)872-9520, ext. 1809 or philip.gale@pennmanor.net.

Sincerely,

Philip B. Gale, Ed.D.

Principal

Survey for Parents of Gifted Students

As part of the study called for by House Resolution 139 (HR139), the Pennsylvania Legislative Budget and Finance Committee is attempting to gain input from parents of gifted students currently served in PA Public Schools through an online survey.   Results from the study and this survey will inform a report scheduled for dissemination in November, 2013 to the Education Committee of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education is asking parents who currently (or within the last year) have a student receiving specially designed instruction through gifted education services to take this voluntary survey.

To access the survey:

The survey will only be available for completion though 9/05/2013.  If anyone should encounter difficulty in accessing the link prior to 9/5/13, they should contact Terry Beam from the Pennsylvania Legislative Budget and Finance Office (tbeam@palbfc.us<mailto:tbeam@palbfc.us>).
