High School Safety and Drug Search

Dear Parent:

The Penn Manor School District firmly believes in and works hard to provide a safe and secure learning environment for your child.  As one facet of providing safety and security for our students, we have taken measures to prevent illegal drugs from being present in our schools.  Within our curriculum, we provide anti-drug, tobacco, and alcohol instruction.  The district also has a drug screening program that is mandatory for students who are involved in co-curricular activities and voluntary for other students.

On December 16, 2011, the district took an additional step to provide for a drug-free environment.  With the support of the Millersville Borough and Southern Regional Police Departments, a search of all lockers, restrooms, and locker rooms was conducted with the use of drug detection canines. The high school was placed in a modified lockdown. Students and staff were informed of the search and instructed to remain in their classrooms.

Our hope is that students continue to be part of the solution in helping to make our schools safe places to learn by reporting any drug use to an adult; the use of the drug detection canines adds an additional element of security for all students and adults at Penn Manor High School.  Your support of our endeavors adds to ensuring a safe school.

Sincerely,

Philip B. Gale, Penn Manor High School Principal

Dr. Michael Leichliter, Superintendent of Schools

PMHS Anti-drug actions

The Penn Manor School District firmly believes in and works hard to provide a safe and secure learning environment for your child.  As one facet of providing safety and security for our students, we have taken measures to prevent illegal drugs from being present in our schools.  Within our curriculum, we provide anti-drug, tobacco, and alcohol instruction.  The district also has a drug screening program that is mandatory for students who are involved in co-curricular activities and voluntary for other students.

Last year, the district took an additional step to provide for a drug-free environment.  With the support of the Millersville Borough and Southern Regional Police Departments, a search of all lockers, bathrooms and locker rooms was conducted with the use of drug detection canines.

As we progress through this year, our desire is that students continue to be part of the solution in helping to make our schools safe places to learn by reporting any drug use to an adult.  The use of the drug detection canines adds an additional element of security for all students and adults at Penn Manor High School and may be utilized during the course of the 2011-2012 school year.  Your support of our endeavors adds to ensuring a safe school.
